Dan Campbell has switched his view in less than six months. After losing to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game, the Detroit Lions head coach had claimed it was their only shot at winning a Super Bowl.
However, Campbell has renewed hopes for his team’s success in the 2024 season. As the Mandatory mini-camp came to an end on Thursday, he highlighted the key areas that the Lions should continue to work on.
He further discussed various schemes about stopping the opposition, along with the importance of the offseason training routine. One advantage the Lions have is that they kept hold of a majority of last season’s starters. Even though some did not attend the OTAs because of rehabbing, Campbell believes that they can easily follow the playbook upon their return.
However, to achieve their goal, he wants the Lions to be more adaptable and finish the job this time.
We know what it says on paper, but we can’t do the Ron Burgundy. We can’t just continue to read off the teleprompter. Dan Campbell said during Thursday’s post-training press conference
The Lions’ intent is clear, they want to challenge for the Super Bowl. Extending Amon-Ra St. Brown’s contract and making Jared Goff the highest-paid quarterback is only the gist of it.
More importantly, Jahmyr Gibbs is close to making a full recovery. Gibbs missed out on spring practice after sustaining a soft tissue injury. His absence was a missed opportunity for growth in the rushing back spot, but David Montgomery ’s availability has filled that void.
Dan Campbell aims to lift the Lombardi Trophy with the Lions
The Lions gave a genuine scare to the 49ers in the conference championship game earlier this year. A simple mistake from Campbell’s end cost them an appearance in their first Super Bowl ever.
Campbell sent a clear message to his players about what they want as a team at the business end of the NFL season.
What do you want it to look like when we're sitting here and it's February? Where is your mind? And so, think about that, and let's work backward[s] from there. Dan Campbell said
The 48-year-old who will enter the fourth year as the head coach of the Lions wants to win the entire lot.
You know what I want. I want the whole enchilada. Dan Campbell added
The Detroit Lions will play three pre-season games against the New York Giants, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Pittsburgh Steelers from August 8 to August 24. They will kick off the 2024 NFL Season by welcoming last season’s wild-card round opponents the Los Angeles Rams at Ford Field on September 8.
