Daniel Jones benching paves way for hilariously bad Cowboys Thanksgiving Day matchup

For the rest of the year, the Dallas Cowboys are going to be one of the more unwatchable teams in the league. Anyone running a Mike McCarthy offense with Cooper Rush as the trigger-man is ripe for embarrassment, as the Cowboys showed against the rival Philadelphia Eagles.

Dallas Cowboys v New York Giants

However, as is always the case with Dallas, their status as a marquee franchise puts them in the national spotlight constantly. The Cowboys have three primetime games in the next month, including their annual Thanksgiving matchup. The New York, who are 2-8 right now, aren't the most worthy opponent.

Cooper Rush vs. Daniel Jones was already going to be a tough matchup, but things somehow managed to get even more unappealing. The Giants finally made the decision to bench Jones, but they decided to roll with fan favorite Tommy DeVito as the starter instead of nominal No. 2 quarterback Drew Lock.

Imagine, if you will, families gathered around the Thanksgiving table, sharing in the warmth and good tidings of the holiday season. Imagine once more those memories being interrupted by Rush's ultra-conservative style of play and DeVito's below-average arm trying in vain to outduel one another.

Giants-Cowboys Thanksgiving game looks terrible after Daniel Jones benched for Tommy DeVito

DeVito had some life last year, but it's clear that he is a garden-variety backup quarterback. The Giants may improve by subtraction after taking Jones out of the lineup, but the Dallas defense shouldn't be quaking in their boots now that the former Rutgers and Illinois starter is under center.

Even with Rush as the quarterback and Trey Lance waiting in the wings, the Cowboys need to win this game. Playing at home against a quarterback who wasn't even active on gameday for most of the season should be a slam dunk win, even if Rush's limitations make it hard to run a full offense.

Before the Giants gane, Dallas has two matchups against possible playoff teams in the Houston Texans and Washington Commanders. Losing out would drop the Cowboys to 3-9 on the season, cementing 2024 in infamy as one of the worst seasons in the history of this very proud franchise.

The Cowboys will be a tough watch for the remainder of the year, as both they and the Giants are counting down the days until next year when they can make a proper postseason charge. in the mean time, both teams will treat the viewing public to some serious holiday slop.
