Bachelor Nation got to know Danielle Maltby on Season 21 of “The Bachelor” and again on Seasons 4 and 8 of “Bachelor in Paradise.”
While on “The Bachelor,” Danielle opened up about her fiancé Nic Haag, who passed away in 2011.
She’s opened up about her grief online, and last week took to Instagram to reflect on her life since his passing 14 years ago.
Danielle posted a video collage with photos through the years and shared how this year has felt different than previous years.
She wrote, “Life is weird y’all. I haven’t spoken much about Nic on here and rarely on the anniversary of his passing. I don’t know what it is about the last couple days or this year and anniversary in particular but I woke up feeling heavy when the days prior I’ve felt a lot of peace and actually smiling talking to our mutual friends about what his commentary would be like on the lives we’ve lived the last 14 years. Above everything we hear his laughter- and impeccable whit with lewd words. I think he’s really proud, of all of us.”
She continued and reflected, “I started thinking about the moments over the last 14 years. All the things I have done, experienced, all the life I lived and all the things left to experience…But if anything… I guess this year I’m really appreciating where I’m at and what’s to come. I started going through my camera roll and then decided to under take this montage of things and people that have loved me, supported me, saved me and helped me find so much freaking light and joy.”
Danielle then expressed what she’s learned as she’s navigated her grief over the years.
“It’s all seconds of life, it’s all temporary,” she said. “Your pain and heartache is temporary. The confusion is temporary. The love though- that changes and evolves as you change and evolve. There will hopefully be a lot of people who love you in your life and a lot of loves in your life. As my people constantly remind me, look how far you’ve come. Look at all you’ve done.”
We’re sending Danielle all our love and appreciate her vulnerability. We know that her sharing her story will help others going through a similar journey.
