Danny Stutsman already showing star potential before playing a game

“You gotta be able to lead, you gotta be able to produce, and the fans gotta love you.”

Danny Stutsman at New Orleans Saints Rookie Minicamp

On an episode of LockedOn Saints, LockedOn Network's Ross Jackson said that those are the three main ingredients for becoming a star in the NFL. Fortunately, according to Jackson, rookie linebacker Danny Stutsman possesses all the necessary qualities to make an impact and potentially become a star in the league.

Danny Stutsmans leadership

"When it comes to Danny Stutsman, we know that (leadership) is one of his best attributes." Jackson said on LockedOn Saints. "...You see a guy there that was able to lead a team that made the leap from the Big 12 - where defense was merely a suggestion—to going into the SEC where defense dominates."

Stutsman was a team captain for his final three years at Oklahoma. And in 2024, that defense ranked 12th overall in terms of rushing yards per attempt—3.1—in all of college football. Jackson says to remember that last year, the Saints averaged 4.9 rushing yards per attempt.

As a run defender, Stutsman was one of the best at his position, earning a Pro Football Focus grade of 90.9 in 2024—second only to Michigan State linebacker Jordan Turner (92.2). However, he struggles in coverage, only earning a PFF grade of 46.3. Stutsman recorded 110 tackles and one sack in his senior season, earning consensus All-American honors and first-team SEC recognition.

Danny Stutsman and New Orleans

Through his presence on social media and general vibes, many fans have already grown to love Stutsman in the short time he's been on the Saints. There's also one Instagram post in particular that managed to capture the hearts of many.

However, he loves the city just as much in return. "God, I love New Orleans," Stutsman said during the 2025 Saints rookie tour. "...These fans are one of a kind; they're amazing. I'm just welcome and happy to be in New Orleans.
