After #2 overall Jayden Daniels showed that he’s clearly got what it takes to become a franchise quarterback in the NFL during his rookie season, the Washington Commanders tried to beef up Daniels’ arsenal by adding former Pro Bowl wide receiver Deebo Samuel.
Unfortunately for Washington, however, it appears that Deebo Samuel may have taken the beef part too literally this offseason.
A viral video from Washington Commanders training camp shows the 29-year-old former San Francisco 49ers looking quite rotund and quite slow out of his breaks, a far cry from the multifaceted weapon he was in the Bay Area.
Samuel was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers out of the University o South Carolina with the 36th overall pick (2nd round) of the 2019 NFL Drat.
Over the course of his six season in the NFL, Samuel has 334 catches for 4,792 yards and 83 touchdowns, and 202 carries for 1,143 yards and 20 touchdowns.
As for Jayden Daniels, the former Heisman Trophy winner out of LSU is coming off a season in which he won Rookie of the Year and led the Commanders to a 12-5 record and an appearance in the NFC Championship game.
During his rookie campaign, Daniels completed 69% of his passes for 3,568 yards, 25 touchdowns and 9 interceptions, while also carrying the ball 148 times for 891 yards and 6 touchdowns.
Daniels, Samuel and the rest of the Washington Commanders will open their 2025 season at home against their NFC East rival New York Giants on Sunday, September 7 at 1 p.m. EST.
