While there are still uncertainties surrounding the Washington Commanders amid the offseason, one thing seems clear: Deebo Samuel is pumped up.
After six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, the wide receiver wanted a change of scenery, and he got his wish after being traded to the Commanders. In exchange, the 49ers received a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
The 29-year-old Samuel said he's ready to roll up his sleeves and help the Commanders reach loftier heights.
Washington is coming off an impressive campaign, making it to the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 1991.
Samuel revealed in a report from ESPN's John Keim that it was one of the reasons why he wanted to join the Commanders the most among his five preferred destinations.
"I like winners," explained the former All-Pro First Team member. "I'm not one of your biggest losers.
"They've got a good team for sure and they were just standing out."
Samuel could develop a stellar pairing with quarterback Jayden Daniels, who was named Offensive Rookie of the Year and is fast becoming one of the bona fide stars of the NFL.
"Just to see him grow and see how well he played last year, I was like, 'Man, why not try to come over here and help in any aspect that I can?'" said Samuel.
He is coming off a mediocre stint with the 49ers, tallying only 51 receptions—the second-lowest of his career. They failed to reach the playoffs after making it to the Super Bowl just the previous season.
Now, he's all about proving himself again.
"They're getting a motivated Deebo," said the newest Commander. "You get a dawg out there. These young legs are still moving, this body is still working pretty well."
