Deion Sanders addresses rumors that he wants to be next Cowboys head coach

If you can believe it, the Deion-To-The-Cowboys rumors aren't going away.

What started as a fun little thought exercise last offseason has become full-blown speculation, with contradictory reports surfacing over the past week about Sanders' interest in the Cowboys job. Mike McCarthy's days in Dallas are numbered, and the idea of Sanders returning to the Cowboys is simply too Cowboys to discredit entirely.

The idea of him and Sheduer coming over as a package deal doesn't feel all that likely considering, you know, the massive contract they just signed Dak Prescott to, but they're only one loss away from being in the thick of the Travis Hunter sweepstakes. During his mid-week press conference, Sanders was asked about the rumors and answered in a way that only he could.

"That's so disrespectful," Sanders joked. "You're going to talk about me going somewhere with [Colorado's Athletic Director] in the room? They mentioned us with a lot of other stuff before we started winning, too, didn't they? I'm not going to keep going with that. I'm happy with where I'm at. I'm good. I got a kickstand down. A lot of people in here are not of age to know what a kickstand is. That means I'm resting. I'm good. I'm happy. I'm excited. I'm enthusiastic about where I am. I love it here. Truly do. Next question."

Everything about this answer is peak Deion. He certainly sounds like someone who, in this exact moment in time, is very happy coaching at Colorado. And honestly, that's pretty believable – the Buffs are one of the biggest surprises in college football, and they probably control their own destiny when it comes to a CFB Playoff spot.

He's also, notably, still coaching his son and presumptive Heisman winner Travis Hunter, who he's especially close with. I'm sure that, at this point, he is happy and enthusiastic about where he is.

But in three months? When Shedeur and Hunter are gone? That's obviously a much different question, and one that Sanders didn't really bother touching on – presumably by design. He certainly wouldn't be the first college football coach to say 'I'm happy here' only to leave a short time later. Even if Sanders has dreams of sticking around Boulder for the next decade, it probably doesn't hurt to give CU's AD a little contract anxiety before what will be Colorado Football's biggest offseason in recent memory.

So basically, no one knows anything. No one's tipping their hand yet, which probably shouldn't be too surprising. It's gonna be a long couple months.
