Denver Broncos expert names one big-name receiver he does not want to see Sean Payton pursue, he decimated the team in 2024

The wide receiver posted 131 yards and three touchdowns against Sean Payton’s unit in a December showdown, but one expert isn’t satisfied.

The season is over for every team but two. Unfortunately for the Denver Broncos, the division rival Chiefs are in the Big Game. However, that doesn’t mean the team wasn’t successful this season.

One may argue that the Broncos essentially swept the Kansas City Chiefs this year, demolishing them in the Week 18 showdown and coming within a blocked field goal of beating them in Arrowhead Stadium.

Going into the year, Nix had already convinced his teammates that he was ‘the guy’, but he backed it up in 2024.

However, their slide in the middle of December to nearly miss the playoffs could have changed everything. It was during this slide that Jayden Daniels began to separate in the Rookie of the Year conversation, backed by Jay Gruden doubling down.

During the slide, the Broncos lost to the Chargers, and Bengals in back-to-back weeks. One key player that allowed the Bengals to win could be available in the coming weeks, but one Broncos expert wants no part of it.

Broncos expert Andrew Mason delivers thoughts on Tee Higgins

Speaking exclusively to NFL Analysis Network, Broncos expert Andrew Mason answered whether he had an interest in any of the free agent receivers coming available this year. Mason named a receiver he was out on for one clear reason.

He said: “I don’t like Tee Higgins at the cost. I’m more inclined to maybe have a mid-round addition this year to the receiver corps. Again, they have some young receivers.”

“[They’ve] got Troy Franklin who had the touchdown in the playoff game, Marvin Mims junior is already an all-pro returner. But they found a really good role for him.

“You know in the backfield moving him around late in the season. Courtland Sutton just had his best season since 2019,” he added.

The Broncos offense finished with a top-ten scoring offense for the first time since 2014, backing up Mason on his argument to keep the core similar, if not the same. In other words, no big swings. Of course, the Broncos saw firsthand what Higgins could do

Tee Higgins gave Sean Payton plenty of reasons to chase him

The Bengals played against the Denver Broncos on December 28. Higgins had arguably his best game of the season, logging 11 catches for 131 yards and three touchdowns, per Pro Football Reference.

Joe Burrow’s team also upset the Broncos in the contest in a must-win for the Broncos, who sat one game away from clinching a postseason berth for three consecutive weeks.

While the Broncos are improved in scoring on offense, they still have room to climb on the totem pole. When it comes to passing yards per game, they still finished 20th in the league, per ESPN analytics.

To boost those numbers, one can hope that the wide receivers grow on their own, or they can add one veteran playmaker like Higgins to the bunch to see if they can raise the floor.
