The Denver Broncos have embarked on a crucial offseason, prioritizing their offensive needs in a bid to enhance their playoff aspirations. As they assessed their roster, it became evident that bolstering their offense would be paramount, particularly in securing a tight end and a running back. These two positions emerged as their top priorities, leading the Broncos to successfully acquire one player for each role through both the draft and free agency.
While the addition of talent in the tight end and running back positions is a significant step forward, the wide receiver corps presents a more complex challenge. Though Courtland Sutton stands as a legitimate No. 1 option, the Broncos have struggled to build adequate depth around him. Despite Sutton’s potential for another standout season, the lack of additional support has raised concerns. The Broncos did draft wide receiver Pat Bryant in the third round (74th overall), but relying on a rookie to fill a critical role on a playoff-contending team poses risks.
Broncos Seek to Complete Offense with Keenan Allen
ESPN analyst Seth Walder highlighted this deficiency, labeling the Broncos’ failure to secure more wide receivers as their most significant offseason misstep. He suggested the team explore free agent options to strengthen their receiving ranks, specifically mentioning the possibility of adding Keenan Allen, a six-time Pro Bowler and former rival in the AFC West.
Allen, who recently concluded a season with the Chicago Bears after spending the first eleven years of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers, is now seeking a new team. In his one season in Chicago, he recorded 70 receptions for 744 yards and 7 touchdowns—figures that, while solid, marked his least productive year since 2016. At 33 years old, Allen has been a model of consistency in the NFL, boasting six seasons with over 1,000 receiving yards before being traded to the Bears in March 2024 for a fourth-round draft pick.
