When you talk about some of the greatest players to ever wear blue and orange for the Denver Broncos, Von Miller is at the top of the list, and it certainly helps that he is a fan favorite, considering his ties to the city, too.
Miller has won a Super Bowl with the Broncos, back when they beat the Carolina Panthers, lost another one to the Seattle Seahawks, and won some very nice and prestigious hardware, too. Miller is an all-time great, a no-doubt Hall of Famer, and certainly a guy who will likely get his number retired as a Broncos edge rusher.
He has spent his last few seasons with the Buffalo Bills, and while his game has certainly massively declined, he can still play in the league. But will he? Or will he retire? Well, he's being petty about when he will end up retiring.
“No, because I need (9.5) more sacks to pass DeMarcus (Ware, who is No. 13 all-time with 138.5)," Miller recently said. "That’s one of them. If I had 140 sacks? I could retire. But me and DeMarcus, we spent a lot of time together in the offseason. He plays a lot of golf. Whenever I’m done playing football, I’ll probably be right there with him playing golf. I just can’t let him have that … I’ve already played three more years than he’s played so I at least have to get him on total sacks. That’s one of the personal goals that I have.”
Miller can do it. Now, it may not happen this year, but he can certainly do it. If it did happen this year, that would end up being Miller's best year since 2021. Now, he did have six sacks last season, so never say never, because that's just three and a half sacks more, but it feels like it will take two seasons to get there.
If he did end up getting it this year, he could retire at seventh all-time in sacks, moving up from his current 16th spot to that spot. And hey, maybe he could even get more than nine and a half, and finish in the top five. Whatever happens, he should end up retiring as a Bronco.
