The Denver Broncos have seriously turned their franchise around since hiring Sean Payton. And that may have been the best decision that general manager George Paton ever made. He's made a lot of good, but also a lot of bad decisions during his time as GM.
Of course, when you look at the roster now, you can see some other great decisions he has made, like drafting Bo Nix, signing Zach Allen, paying Courtland Sutton, and a few others.
On Friday, he made a decision that is pretty much considered by everyone to be a good move. This one involved the front office, where there will be seeing a minor change.
Broncos' Reed Burckhardt gets promoted
Reed Burckhardt, who has worked with Paton for 16 years, will help lead player personnel and scouting efforts as the Broncos build on their 2024 playoff season for 2025, in what is looking to be a very promising season.
Before his promotion, Burckhardt was the Broncos’ director of player personnel since joining the team in 2022. He previously spent 13 years with the Minnesota Vikings, rising to director of pro scouting in 2021 and contributing to signings like Kirk Cousins and Patrick Peterson. His move to Denver reunited him with Paton, who became the Broncos’ GM in 2021.
On Friday, he was promoted to the assistant general manager of the Broncos.
A former backup quarterback at South Dakota State, Burckhardt brings a player’s perspective and deep scouting experience to his new role. His promotion follows several front-office departures. So, this was bound to happen eventually, and Burckhardt seems to be the right man for the job.
The Broncos drafts and scouting when it comes to signimg players has gotten significantly better over the last few years. It feels like Burckhardt is a big reason why. And, now we can only expect it to stay that way for at least a bit longer.
