Denver Broncos Tackling Machine Excited for Season

In March 2022, Alex Singleton signed with the Broncos and quickly became a tackling machine. He posted 163 tackles in 2022, including an incredible 21 combined tackles in one game as he is one of just two players with multiple 20-tackle games in a single season since 1994.

A consistent presence, Singleton ranked sixth in NFL tackles since 2020—proof of his durability and instincts. His performance earned him a three-year, $18 million contract extension in March 2023 solidifying his role as a key defensive cog.

In an article by Mike Klis, Singleton and head coach Sean Payton expect the Broncos to have another great season.

Singleton Recovery From Injury

Singleton is recovering from tearing his ACL last season however he expects to be ready by training camp.

“I’ve been itching (to play again) ever since that moment,” Singleton said. “Even just two weeks ago, when we got our helmets fitted, you got emotional. Every step you get excited and a little emotional about it. But, yeah, really excited to get going with the guys and excited to continue to take those steps.”

As Singleton enters recovery mode, the Broncos will rely on his veteran savvy and leadership during his rehab. Once healthy, he’s expected to resume a central defensive role. If he stays consistent, his blend of production and resilience could place him among Denver’s defensive cornerstones in the years to come.

Singleton Looking Forward to Playing with Greenlaw

Singleton is looking forward to playing with recently acquired Dre Greenlaw this season. They have already formed a great relationship with each other during the early stages.

“It feels a lot like when I got here with Josey (Jewell),” Singleton said. “That’s how we are at meetings. We sit next to each other, he’s in that same seat. So it’s kind of cool to have that experience. It’s easy to pick each other’s brains because we’ve both played a lot of football.

“Football, you can be great at Xs and Os, but if you’re not instinctual, especially at our position, you’re almost wasting your time. So just be able to learn from each other and kind of know who that person is I think is almost as important as Xs and Os.”

Both players bring high character and work ethic into the locker room. It’s no surprise they quickly bonded on and off the field. On defense, they will communicate fluidly reading formations, shifting responsibilities, and directing teammates with precision. Practically, they will function like partners in crime, covering for each other’s gaps and tracking trajectories together.

As the Broncos continue refining their defensive scheme, coaches trust that Greenlaw and Singleton can lead the charge by bringing stability, accountability, and toughness.
