Detailed Breakdown of Dustin Hopkins Extension With The Cleveland Browns

A detailed breakdown of kicker Dustin Hopkins extension with the Cleveland Browns.

Cleveland Browns kicker Dustin Hopkins was set to enter the 2024 season in the last year of his current deal, but the Browns inked him to a three-year, $15.9 million extension on Monday.

In 2023, Hopkins, 33, hit game-winning field goals as time expired in a 33-31 road victory against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 10 and a 13-10 home win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 11. In his debut season with the Browns, he was consistent all year, converting 33 of 36 of his field goal attempts, including all eight from 50 yards or more.

Hopkins will begin his second season in Cleveland and tenth in the league after seasons in Washington (2015-2021) and the Chargers (2021-2022).

The OBR's resident capologist, Jack Duffin, is away getting married. Congratulations, Jack! However, he still found time to send over a breakdown of the details in Hopkin's Contract.

Details Of Extension

Hopkins's extension includes a $3.58 million signing bonus and the 2024 and 2025 seasons guaranteed, totaling $8.36 million in guarantees at signing.

3-year extension
2024 & 2025 guaranteed

Cash
2024 - $5,562,500 guaranteed
2025 - $2,800,000 guaranteed
2026 - $5,200,000
2027 - $5,400,000

The extension effectively paid him $4.8 million to add one more guaranteed contract year to his deal. The third and fourth year are team options.

He will receive $45,000 in per-game roster bonuses, which gives the Browns some injury protection.

Three void years are added to the end of the deal for salary purposes, and the contract's structure frees up $937,941 of cap space for 2024.
