With the trashing of the Tennessee Titans, the Detroit Lions are 6-1 on the season. According to the team’s PR Twitter account, it’s the first time they’ve gotten off to that good of a start since the 1956 season. That year, the Lions started 7-1, finished 9-3, and just missed out on a championship.
Just last week, the 2023 and 2024 Lions became the first ever teams in the franchise’s history to post back-to-back 5-1 starts. The last time the Lions did that was when it was the Portsmouth Lions in 1933 and 1934.
It’s just another notch in Dan Campbell’s belt. Just a few weeks ago, Campbell crossed over .500 in his time heading up the Lions, despite the fact that he started 4-19-1 in his first 24 games. He was just the second Lions coach since the 1950s to accomplish that.
The @Lions are 6-1 this year, their best start to a season since 1956.
