DeVonta Smith injury update: “Not a lot of optimism that” receiver will play in Eagles-Ravens

“There is not a lot of optimism” about the Philadelphia Eagles having DeVonta Smith available for their Week 13 game against the Baltimore Ravens, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

Is DeVonta Smith playing this week? Injury update, fantasy outlook for Eagles' WR ahead of SNF vs. Rams | Sporting News

Rapoport notes that Smith might work out prior to the game on Sunday to see if he can go. Mike Garafolo adds that there is “no definitive ruling as of now but [Smith] has work to do to play in this one.”

Smith, who’s been dealing with a hamstring issue, was officially ruled questionable to play on the Eagles’ final injury report. He missed Wednesday’s practice before being limited on Thursday and Friday.

Potentially being without Smith isn’t ideal; the Eagles will likely need all hands on deck to beat the Ravens. With Johnny Wilson also ruled out, Philadelphia might be down to just the following wide receivers: A.J. Brown, Jahan Dotson, Britain Covey, Ainias Smith, and Parris Campbell. The Eagles could look to really lean into running the ball (as they usually do) and utilizing more two tight end sets in this game.

If he doesn’t play this weekend, perhaps we’ll see Smith return in Week 14 or Week 15. His progress in practice points to him being back on the field sooner than later, though hamstring injuries can obviously be tricky.
