DeVonta Smith on the Eagles playing in Brazil: “No comment”

The Eagles had practice over at Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday, but beforehand, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith spoke to reporters. Among the many topics discussed, both receivers were asked their thoughts on playing in Brazil. While Brown acknowledged that this will be his first international game, he explained that they won’t be doing much as far as site-seeing.

BROWN: We had a meeting yesterday, and there were a whole bunch of ‘don’t dos,’ and so I’m just trying to go down there, win a football game, and come back home. That’s the best way I can put it.”

He quipped that initially he was interested in learning Portuguese and diving into the culture, but after the meeting, he admitted he’ll probably just stay in his room. When asked what they were told not to do, Brown said there were a lot of things — even something as simple as walking down the street with their phone in their hands.

BROWN: This is not a vacation, this is a football game.”

DeVonta Smith sat at the microphone just a little while after Brown, and when he was asked his thoughts on playing a game in Brazil, especially considering the travel distance, the WR didn’t care to discuss.

SMITH: No comment.”

When pressed a little further about any excitement for the Week 1 international game, Smith succinctly noted that it’s just football, and he just has to line up.

The Eagles’ season opener on Friday night has already irritated fans who get robbed of an actual (in Philly) home game, and for fans at home who have to subscribe to Peacock if they want to watch the matchup. After hearing from Brown and Smith, it doesn’t seem like the players are any more excited than the fans for the opportunity.
