Dinwiddie signing opens new option for Mavericks to dangle in trades

After what's already been one of the greatest free agency periods in Dallas Mavericks history, which included them signing Klay Thompson to a three-year deal, the team just added more manpower.

The Nico Harrison effect just got more real when the Mavericks decided to bring back Spencer Dinwiddie on a one-year deal after he spent the end of last season on the Los Angeles Lakers. Los Angeles wanted to bring Dinwiddie back, but he decided to sign with Dallas and return to the team with which he had so much success with.

However, the Dinwiddie signing might lead to a future trade where the Mavericks might be forced to get rid of one of their young guards.

Spencer Dinwiddie signing makes Jaden Hardy expendable

Spencer Dinwiddie was a major part of Luka Doncic's first Western Conference Finals appearance. Dinwiddie averaged 15.8 points and shot nearly 50 percent from the field. His presence will be heavily needed on the court.

It brings up another question of if Dinwiddie succeeds like he once did with Dallas, will they look to trade away their young guard Jaden Hardy?

In Dinwiddie's first stint with Dallas, he was a reliable scorer and arguably a second option as a scorer if Jalen Brunson was having an off night.

With lots of minutes going to be distributed between the new guard play, this might just be an opportunity for Hardy's minutes to be cut down.

Hardy has averaged between 13 and 15 minutes a game in his two years in the NBA. He has an upside for playing a part in any rotation in the NBA.

With the Mavs and all their new free agency moves, it's hard to see Hardy in the rotation for much longer. This also might mean a move from Harrison to get someone in a trade in the middle of the season.

Hardy has been an energizer bunny as a man of the bench, especially in the playoffs when the team needed a rotation change. His value will be appreciated if traded to another team.

Trading Hardy would be a hard pill to swallow for most Mavs fans considering his high potential, but there are only so many minutes to give to the guards. Dallas is stacked at the guard position, and with Dinwiddie on the roster, Hardy might be someone whose minutes go way down.

If Hardy isn't in Dallas' rotation, then some other team would likely love to utilize him.
