Discussion: Which Lions player are you hoping breaks out in training camp?

Detroit Lions training camp is right around the corner. Rookies are already in the building—provided technology busts didn’t mess with their flights too much. Veterans report shortly. And they’re all expected to take the field early next week.

Detroit Lions will open training camp July 30

Lions football is back, y’all, and this could be the most special year in our lifetime.

While training camp isn’t officially football football, it’s our longest look at the team in the year calendar. Daily, we get access to two-hour practices, while we really only get to see them perform on Sundays during the season.

So today’s Question of the Day is:

Which Lions player would you like to see the MOST improve during training camp?
My answer: The easy answer here is Jameson Williams. The Lions' former first-round pick showed some improvement by the end of 2023 and looked even better in the spring. However, to take the necessary steps to reach his full potential and be a true No. 2 receiver, Williams will need to take his game to the next level. More consistent routes run, better hands, and an understanding of his role in a complicated offense.

Beyond that, a Year 3 breakout from Josh Paschal would be just as impactful for the other side of the ball. I haven’t given up on him yet, but it’s fair to say his contributions through two season have been a disappointment. Paschal has the skillset to be a decent edge setter and run defender, but if he can show some additional burst and pass rushing chops, it has the opportunity to change the entire identity of that defensive line. Aidan Hutchinson is still a madman, the Lions’ interior is strong with DJ Reader and Alim McNeill. Paschal is the missing piece.

Hopefully, the addition of Marcus Davenport and the return of James Houston provide some extra push for Paschal to reach his full potential.
