Well, that was quick. Less than two weeks after claiming Yoendrys Gómez off waivers from the New York Yankees, the Los Angeles Dodgers have already designated the right-hander for assignment. Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reported the news Tuesday morning, noting that the Dodgers had recalled J. P. Feyereisen from Triple-A Oklahoma City as a "fresh bullpen arm" in a corresponding move.
Feyereisen is back with the Dodgers after spending the 2024 season with the organization. He became a free agent during the offseason and signed a minor-league contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks, who designated him for assignment late last month after he allowed two runs over two innings pitched across two games.
Last year with the Dodgers, Feyereisen went 0-1 with an 8.18 ERA in 10 appearances spread across multiple big league stints. At Oklahoma City, he was 2-6 with a 5.48 ERA in 33 games (six starts). While he gives the Dodgers an extra arm for the time being, Feyereisen will likely be optioned back to Triple-A on Wednesday when Los Angeles is scheduled for another bullpen game.

It's not hard to see why Gómez's stint in Los Angeles was such a short one. In 4 1/3 innings over three games, he pitched to an ERA of 14.54 and gave up a team-high seven runs during that span. His most recent appearance came on Monday against the Miami Marlins when he entered a 7-1 game in the eighth and exited after giving up a three-run homer while only recording one out.
It was the second time in Gómez's four appearances that he turned a sizable lead into a close game for the Dodgers. He also allowed four runs in one inning to the Marlins on April 30 in a 12-7 Dodgers victory.
The Dodgers now have seven days to trade or release Gómez, who is no longer on their 40-man roster. If he clears outright waivers, the Dodgers can assign him to the minor leagues, which seems to be the most likely outcome.
