The Dodgers on Sunday sent eight players to minor league camp, including pitcher Nick Frasso, in their first roster cuts of spring training.
Frasso was the only one of the players on the 40-man roster, so he was optioned to the minors. Outfielders Josue De Paula, Zyhir Hope, Ryan Ward, Justin Dean, and pitchers Carlos Duran, Julian Fernandez, and Justin Jarvis — all non-roster invitees — were reassigned to minor league camp.
Frasso pitched in two Cactus League games, tossing a scoreless inning in each game. This is the second year on the 40-man roster for the right-hander, who missed all of the 2024 season after shoulder surgery and hip surgery.
De Paula and Hope are two of the Dodgers’ top prospects, both named to several top-100 lists in baseball prior to this season, their age-20 campaigns.
Dean was one of two Dodgers to play a game on all 11 games on the schedule so far this spring. Kody Hoese, who is still in major league camp, is the other.
The Dodgers are off on Monday after playing a pair of games on Sunday. With only eight games remaining on the Arizona portion of their schedule, expect more roster cuts in the coming week.
Excluding players already on the injured list, the Dodgers have 59 players remaining in big league camp at Camelback Ranch. That includes 25 position players and 34 pitchers, though among the arms are seven more who are expected to begin the season on the IL.
