The Los Angeles Dodgers won the 2024 World Series in dominant fashion. Of course, this was largely because of the stars on the team. But there were a lot of unsung heroes in their pursuit of the title.
A few of these unsung heroes, including Walker Buehler and Blake Treinen, are entering unrestricted free agency this winter. Both right-handers stepped up in a big way for the Dodgers against the New York Yankees.
MLB.com's Mark Feinsand listed Treinen as the Dodgers free agent most likely to re-sign this winter.
"After missing all of 2023 following shoulder surgery, Treinen posted a 1.93 ERA in 50 appearances in 2024, holding opposing teams scoreless over his final 15 outings from Aug. 24 through the end of the regular season," Feinsand wrote. "The 36-year-old also had a stellar postseason, helping the Dodgers to the World Series."
Treinen broke out as one of the best relievers in the game of baseball during the 2024 season. As the season went on, his role with Dave Roberts' team slowly increased until he was the team's closer in the postseason.
Treinen looked nearly untouchable in the postseason, which is normally a time when relievers look shockingly mortal.
Re-signing Treinen shouldn't be a monetary issue for Los Angeles. They could give him $10 million a year for a year or two and bring him back, as long as there's not a smaller market team that's willing to offer him much more than he's worth to bring him in.
