Steph Curry and team were hitting somewhat of a rough patch outside of their win vs the Houston Rockets and needed to reverse the Timberwolves loss on Dec 7 which they did two days later.

The story of the game was Draymond Green hitting the Curry-signature “Night-night” celebration after flying past old rival Rudy Gobert.

Steph Curry praised Buddy Hield after the game, and Jonathan Komunga continued his ascent, but Green’s action, considering his history vs. Gobert, was always going to dominate the headlines.

The Warriors forward has now revealed that it almost went wrong for him and former Kevin Durant texted him after the game to call him a “fool”.

Draymond Green says “night-night” to Rudy Gobert

With just 39 seconds remaining in the game and the Warriors leading by six points, Green had the chance to do a give-and-go with Steph Curry.

Instead, he found Gobert on an island at the edge of the three-point line, and with the Frenchman retreating further, Green sensed an opportunity.

He took on Gobert and blew past him for a massive dunk, effectively sealing the win for his team. The night-night celebration came out which he borrowed from Curry.

Green broke down the play on his YouTube channel on an episode of The Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis.

Green said: “We go to the timeout and Seth Cooper (Warriors Assistant Coach) tells me to do a give-and-go because I had Rudy on me.

Seth [Kerr] then comes from behind the bench and tells Steve [Kerr] you should give the ball to Draymond, he can set the offense.

“What I’m initially thinking is that he’s dropping, so I’m going to hand this ball back to Steph. But once he started dropping and Steph started coming up, I just took the great screen set by Steph and ran. Then I hit the night-night”.

Green reveals Kevin Durant called him a ‘fool’ for mistake after his celebration

Green said that he almost made a mistake because he thought he was getting an and-one for Jaden McDaniels’ foul on him but that wasn’t the case.

He started celebrating thinking there would be a stoppage in play and he could hold that pose but he had to run back on defense almost immediately.

“It’s crazy because I really started doing it. I thought they called a foul on Jaden McDaniel because he was pushing me. I thought they called an and-one but I couldn’t hear the whistle which is when I realized I needed to run back.

“KD [Kevin Durant] texted me last night, the first text I saw was from him. He said, ‘You a fool for running down the court full speed doing night-night.

“I didn’t know till I watched it back I was running down the court doing that!”

Even Curry was caught off by Green’s running, saying he didn’t expect him to do it all the way down the court but knowing what Green reveals now, he probably didn’t either!
