Dwight Howard believes there is one major reason why he's not on the Lakers

Every time the topic of the Los Angeles Lakers needing help in the frontcourt surfaces, Dwight Howard is always there to answer the call. How could he not? Superman is always there to save people. Unfortunately for him, the Lakers appear to have closed the door and covered it with lead.

Howard will never fail to remind anyone that the once dominant big man has not technically called it a career. The three-time Defensive Player of the Year pointed that out earlier this year in response to an ESPN segment on First Take.

Since Howard has also pointed out on numerous occasions that podcasting is his thing now, it is appropriate to catch up on some of the things the former Lakers center said of the situation in Los Angeles on an episode of Podcast P with Paul George.

Howard jokes about not being welcomed by the new Lakers family

It has been a long time since Howard donned a purple and gold jersey. Apr. 8 of 2022 was the last instance when the former champion played minutes on the NBA hardwood for the Lakers.

A spot in Los Angeles does not appear to be in the cards for Howard, despite the hole at the five spot. Why is that the case? According to Howard, the type of 'family affair' that the organization has become no longer has a seat at the table for him.

"I have not officially retired yet, but I don't know what I'm going to do yet," Howard told his fellow podcasters. "I thought I was going to get back in the league. … I asked LeBron. He said he wanted Bronny [James] and he said he's trying to get Bryce [James] ... on the Lakers."

Howard joked that the James family is not just going to be running things on the court, but off it as well.

"I'm trying to get Savannah [James] to be– she's going to be the owner of the team so it's a family affair, the whole James family," the future Hall of Fame inductee joked of James' intentions.

Howard made sure to get serious for a bit and remind everyone how much his time with the Lakers meant to him and finished that segment off by saying he will officially announce his retirement when the time feels right.

Dwight had a great redemption arc for the Lakers as a part of the team that went on to win the 2020 NBA title. If the 2025 NBA championship is also won by Los Angeles, it appears very unlikely that Howard will have a role in this run to the top.
