At the end of the league's first week of free agency, you could say the Philadelphia Eagles have been busy.
Amid some other free agency signings and even some trade rumors surfacing, Howie Roseman has been busy.
The same day the Eagles signed yet another tight end to further ignite the Dallas Goedert trade whispers, Philadelphia also went out and reunited with an old friend.
Philadelphia opted to bring back linebacker Patrick Johnson on a 1-year deal just less than six months after releasing him.
Johnson is a former seventh-round pick out of Tulane who spent the first three and a half years of his pro career with Philly. Just last year, though, the Eagles cut him after only two games. From there, he signed with a division rival, the New York Giants.
The majority of his time with the Eagles, during his first go-around, was spent on special teams. He could hardly get on the field for any defensive snaps, totaling a career-best 21 percent of snaps in 2022. Otherwise, he was often a forgotten man who hardly touched the field if not on special teams.
His second and third year in the league saw Johnson finish with at least 74 percent of snaps played on special teams, though, so he certainly made a name for himself in that area.
By the time he got to the Giants, last season, Johnson was a staple on special teams and played a career-best 83 percent of snaps for New York. Sticking with the trend, though, he only played a grand total of 46 defensive snaps all year.
Now, he gets a chance to once again compete for a spot to stick around on a team who just won the Super Bowl.
