Eagles' CJ Gardner-Johnson doesn't hold back calling out Saints for 'dirty' hit on DeVonta Smith

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith left Sunday's game in the fourth quarter with a concussion following a nasty late helmet-to-helmet hit by New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Khristian Boyd.

Smith caught a short pass from quarterback Jalen Hurts before two Saints defenders stopped his forward progress and then Boyd came up behind with the hit that knocked his helmet off.

Smith laid on the ground looking lifeless but eventually walked off several minutes later under his own power.

After the game, Eagles' safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson had some words for the Saints defender.

"Man, that's the dirtiest s--- I ever saw in football, bro," Gardner-Johnson told EPSN  following Philly's 15-12 win. "Y'all obviously saw forward progression was stopped. For them to take a cheap shot on one of our key players, it goes to show what type of team that is. They're front-runners."

No flag was called on the play, but there's a good chance that Boyd will be fined by the NFL later in the week.

"Y'all always talk about CeeDee this, CeeDee this, but let's talk about how they're playing dirty on their side," Gardner-Johnson added. "At the end of the day, the league will handle it. We got the dub and keep it pushing."

Before exiting early, Smith hauled in seven catches for 79 yards.

The Birds also lost starting right tackle Lane Johnson (concussion), starting right guard Mekhi Becton (finger), and wide receiver Britain Covey (shoulder) to injuries.

Head coach Nick Sirianni did not have injury updates on Smith or the others after the game.

"DeVonta Smith, he is one of the toughest dudes I know," Sirianni said. "He's one of the toughest dudes I know. I'll get an update on how he's doing, obviously he didn't come back in the game, but if he would've been able to, he would've because DeVonta Smith is tough... DeVonta Smith is a warrior, he's tough and he puts his body on the line. These guys put their bodies on the line, play in and play out and he's one guy that does that all the time. I hope he's OK."
