The Philadelphia Eagles were "too predictable" last year, which was a reason for their late-season collapse and why head coach Nick Sirianni no longer has full control of the offense.
The reigns have now been handed over to new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and it's going to be exciting, according to Eagles wide receiver tandem AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith.
Under Moore's system, fans can expect to see plenty of motion, which means a lot more freedom, a lot more unpredictability, and big plays.
"I think it's going to be great," Smith said during mandatory minicamp. "Get a new style of offense around. Let guys, not have more freedom, but be able to do things that we weren't allowed to do. Move guys around, things like that. Overall, it's always (good) to have a fresh start."
Of course, a lot more freedom comes with a lot more trust in each other but that's what the Eagles have been spending the early offseason working on.
"I'd say when it comes to certain routes, trusting each other, me and Jalen [Hurts], Smitty [DeVonta Smith], everyone on the field," Brown said. "Just trusting each other, being on the same page. Make sure you have the spot when it's time. I think that's a pretty good thing, a pretty fun thing for a wide receiver."
The Eagles' new offense still has some of Sirianni's input, but Hurts admitted that 95 percent is brand new.
“This whole offseason has been about learning,” Hurts said. “You get to a point where you feel comfortable with this, but that time comes when you can rep it, rep it, rep it later on, but right now it’s been a lot of new inventory — the majority of it, probably 95 percent of it being new, it’s just been that process. And it’s been a fun process because you get to see what works for other people."
It will be a while until we get to see the Eagles' revamped system in action but July's training camp will be here before we know it, which means pre-season is just right around the corner.
