Nolan Smith may not be ready for the start of the mandatory minicamp, but the Philadelphia Eagles star likes where he is at in his recovery from a torn triceps injury.
As a fellow first-round pick playing alongside an All-Pro like Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith is sometimes overlooked as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles.
After last year's playoff run, though, Smith's stardom seems to be growing in his own right. In two short seasons, Smith has seen an increase in his sack production to the point where he became an every-down edge rusher.
His best moments came in the postseason, though. In five playoff games during this two-year run, Smith has recorded 4.5 sacks - third most in team history and just a single one behind Brandon Graham for the top spot.
During Super Bowl LIX, though, Smith suffered a torn triceps injury. While he was able to continue playing for the second half, his recovery has been a months-long process.
Following the completion of some of his offseason workouts, the Georgia product detailed what the rehab process has been like.
And his mindset remains as positive as ever.
“The rehab's great,” said Smith. “I'm in a great spot and still using my arms. Still pressing. Hopefully I'll be striking next week. Everything falling in line. You know, everything happened for a reason. If I wasn't in the Super Bowl, I wouldn't have torn my triceps. I take that as a blessing.”
Smith's recovery, as with any major injury, is a process. No matter how long it takes, the Eagles remain very high on their first-round edge rusher whenever he returns to the field at 100%.
At the very least, it seems that his recovery is going well … maybe in part because his mental approach is a positive one.
