Eagles Land ‘Above-the-Rim’ WR in 2026 NFL Mock Draft from ESPN

The Philadelphia Eagles already have one of the best WR duos in the league with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, but there is no such thing as having too much top shelf talent on the roster under Howie Roseman.

Philadelphia Eagles

Well, in one recent 2026 NFL mock draft from ESPN the Eagles manage to land another imposing WR prospect to join the talented duo on this loaded roster.

Eagles Select Washington WR Denzel Boston in 2026 NFL Mock Draft from ESPN

ESPN’s Matt Miller had the Eagles picking from the No. 31 spot in his latest 2026 NFL mock draft and saw the organization selecting Washington WR Denzel Boston, who has the prototypical size to dominate smaller cornerbacks on the perimeter.

Miller wrote, “The Eagles have thrived on finding top-20 players who slip through the cracks. Boston could fit that mold, as the 6-foot-4, 210-pounder had 63 catches, 834 yards and 9 touchdowns last season.”

Speaking of fits, Boston is the type of prospect who can give opposing defenders and coordinators nightmares with his physical style of play at the catchpoint.

Miller added, “His physical, above-the-rim style is a lot like Tetairoa McMillan’s style. Philadelphia has two bona fide star receivers in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, but there isn’t much behind them. With Brown entering his age-28 season, it’s worth taking a young receiver like Boston for three-wide sets now and to eventually replace Brown later.”

Brown is still at the peak of powers and has produced 60+ receptions for 1,000+ yards and 7+ TDs in all three years with the Eagles. He just turned 28 years old and is one of the higher paid receivers in the league, which does make a little sense to get ahead of another contract extension for an aging player… if that is the direction the Eagles decides to go with Brown down the road.

Smith has been a rock solid WR2 during his time in Philly, but is one of the smaller premier receivers in the league — which makes getting a bigger bodied perimeter receiver make sense to complement his skill set.

What Who Will Emerge as the WR3 in Eagles Offense in 2025?

The Eagles may have one of the best WR duos in the league, but they are a bit weaker at the WR3 position entering the 2025 NFL season.

Names like Jahan Dotson, Ainias Smith, and Terrace Marshall Jr. feel like the names who are likely to compete for the most snaps when the Eagles choose to go to three receiver sets.

Dotson occasionally made plays for his new team, but was mostly a non factor last year with just 19 receptions for 216 yards across all regular season games played with both the Eagles and Washington Commanders in 2024. Ainias Smith wasn’t any better with just seven receptions for 41 yards and one score his rookie year. And Terrace Marshall is coming off of a season where he caught just three passes for 41 yards and no scores.

The case could certainly be made for the Eagles to bring in some competition for the third receiver spot in the coming years, unless one of the players currently on the roster takes a big leap forward in 2025.
