It's safe to say the Philadelphia Eagles are still enjoying the haymaker they were able to land on the NY Giants earlier this offseason. We're of course talking about Howie Roseman signing Saquon Barkley, which is something Nick Sirianni is going to be smiling about for quite some time.
We hate to admit it, but the Eagles have had a pretty strong offseason. Could things get even better for them? Per Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, the Eagles are a team to watch in the Justin Simmons sweepstakes. Simmons would be an ideal target for the G-Men, but if Philly makes a move first, it will have Big Blue pretty darn bummed.
"The Philadelphia Eagles are one obvious place to look, since Simmons’s old coach, Vic Fangio, is there, as is his old position coach, Christian Parker. I guess you could say the same for Ejiro Evero with the Carolina Panthers, since they have a need there—I just don’t think the Panthers would appeal to Simmons. The Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Rams run similar schemes as well, that’d fit Simmons."
- Albert Breer
The Eagles may not have a need for Simmons, though, with it recently being revealed that James Bradberry (former Giant) is making the switch from cornerback to safety. Still, Simmons is an All-Pro talent and signing him would only make Roseman and Sirianni's egos more visible from Mars.
With that said, we're still holding out hope, however small it may be, that Joe Schoen will make a move here. Now that Darren Waller is set to retire, it will create more than $11 million in cap space for the Giants to work with. With Xavier McKinney now in Green Bay, second-round pick Tyler Nubin and Jason Pinnock are the expected starters.
While Nubin has a ton of potential and Pinnock has shown flashes, adding a playmaker like Simmons would 100 percent help this secondary, which is quite young and inexperienced. It'd also send a bit of a message to Philly too. Who knows if Schoen is willing to put an offer on the table, but if he does, we'd be all for it.
