Eagles named landing spot for "versatile" Milton Williams replacement

The Philadelphia Eagles' defensive line took some hits with the loss of key contributors to their Super Bowl-winning team, but there are unknowns about the new additions' impact for 2025.

Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter are the headlines on the defensive line, with Moro Ojomo projected to be the other starter. Off the edge, Nolan Smith Jr. will at least be one of the starters, but it's a mix of Bryce Huff, Azeez Ojulari, Jalyx Hunt, and Joshua Uche competing for playing time.

Philadelphia lost Josh Sweat and Milton Williams this offseason in free agency. While there have been pickups and selections in the NFL Draft to address it, there might be one more option for the Eagles to add some veteran presence to the line.

Who else could the Eagles sign to add depth on the defensive line?

Bleacher Report writer Moe Moton matched up one move that each NFL team still needs to make before the 2025 campaign begins. Morton was looking at the Eagles to add a former Detroit Lions defensive lineman, John Cominsky, a proven veteran who can give the line the experience needed after losing two to free agency and Brandon Graham to retirement.

"If the Eagles were to add another defensive lineman, it wouldn't shock anyone because they constantly stack talent for that position group. Philadelphia added edge-rushers Azeez Ojulari and Josh Uche to compensate for losing Josh Sweat in free agency and Brandon Graham, who retired. However, the team didn't bring in veteran reinforcements for the defensive line despite Milton Williams' departure."

"John Cominsky is a versatile defender who can line up at different positions across the front line. After recording 66 tackles, seven for loss, six sacks and 29 pressures in two years with the Detroit Lions, he would be a solid pickup to help replace Williams' production."

Cominsky was a former fourth-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons in 2019, where he spent his first three seasons. He didn't get extensive playing time until joining the Lions in 2023. In 30 games, Cominsky racked up 66 tackles, 20 quarterback hits, seven tackles for loss, six sacks, four pass deflections, and one forced fumble in a Lions uniform.

The 29-year-old lineman is a solid fit in Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio's defense as he can come off the edge and has the size and speed to do it. He wouldn't be a starter, but a nice change-of-pace third-down pass rusher to help Philadelphia's defense.

With the Eagles so focused on playing the younger players, it would be difficult for Cominsky to start, but he would make a perfect rotational player who can share his experience with the young guys on the team.
