The streaking Philadelphia Eagles are nested atop the NFC East after destroying the slumping Dallas Cowboys, 34-6, on Sunday.
The Eagles notched their fifth consecutive win to improve to 7-2. The Cowboys, on the other hand, dropped their first game without star quarterback Dak Prescott and suffered their fourth straight loss, falling to 3-6.
Prescott is out indefinitely due to a hamstring injury.
Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts, meanwhile, definitely had a strong showing against the Cowboys. He threw 14-of-20 for 202 yards and two touchdowns. The do-it-all signal-caller also rushed for two scores.
After the game, the 26-year-old Hurts touted their toughness as a unit and their ability to bounce back from errors, including getting sacked twice by Cowboys star linebacker Micah Parsons.
“Momentum is an illusion in the sense that it can end and begin at any moment,” said Hurts in a video posted by the Eagles. “So just treat every play like its own.”
To underscore Hurts' magnificent performance against Dallas, he became the first quarterback in NFL history to have four seasons with over 10 rushing touchdowns, surpassing legendary signal-caller Cam Newton.
While Eagles coach Nick Sirianni admitted that they started out flat, he acknowledged Hurts for brushing off his early mistakes and refocusing on leading the squad.
“That’s what winners do," said Sirianni in a report from the Associated Press. "That’s what Jalen Hurts does, and I’m so accustomed to him doing that because when he makes a mistake, he’s able to put it in the past.
"That’s not as easy as it sounds.”
The Eagles will look to extend their hot streak against the Washington Commanders on Thursday.
