This Philadelphia Eagles' offseason was not a usual "let's go all out" kind of offseason for general manager Howie Roseman. It was all about identifying the top players to extend and finding cheap free agents with upside to bring in.
With 10 players selected, Philadelphia's 2025 NFL Draft was critical in roster construction. The new additions to the reigning Super Bowl champs have undoubtedly added more motivation for certain players to perform well in training camp and preseason.
These returning Eagles in particular are squarely on the roster bubble.
4 Eagles who could struggle to make the 53-man roster this season
Johnny Wilson, WR
Wilson has so much upside potential that it was even more disappointing to see how his rookie season ended last year. A sixth-round pick in 2024, Wilson only caught five of his 15 targets for 38 yards and one touchdown in 16 games.
The Eagles brought in competition at wide receiver with Terrace Marshall Jr. and undrafted free agent signing Giles Jackson, who has sleeper potential to make the roster. Philly's other rookie last season, Ainias Smith, showed more potential by catching 7 of 9 targets for 41 yards and a TD.
There is serious competition at the position behind A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, which only makes things tougher for Wilson to carve out a role. The vision with Wilson is clear as he is a towering 6-foot-6. He could be a viable red zone weapon but the drops have hurt his case.
If Wilson does not have a stellar preseason, he might be looking at a spot on the practice squad or completely off the team.
Eli Ricks, CB
It certainly felt like more spots would open at cornerback after the Eagles let veterans James Bradberry and Darius Slay go at the start of the offseason.
However, Philly signed vet Adoree Jackson and drafted UCF standout Mac McWilliams in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. That only creates more competition for Ricks, who played in just seven games in his second season last year.
Typically, only five or six cornerbacks make the final roster, and Ricks is starting to feel more and more like the odd man out. Quinton Mitchell and Cooper DeJean will be the outside cornerbacks, while Kelee Ringo will be slotted at nickel. Ricks must impress in training camp to make the cut.
Darian Kinnard, OT
No position has been as deep and talented as the Eagles' offensive line over the past decade-plus. Between, Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson, Mekhi Becton, Jordan Mailata, Landon Dickerson, Cam Jurgens, and more, Philly has churned out outstanding talents.
Kinnard hasn't been on the team for long, but he has already created a decorated resume with three Super Bowl titles with the Chiefs and Eagles. He is expected to be one of the backup tackles on the roster for the upcoming season.
The competition will be tough, though, with Kendall Lamm signing with Philadelphia in the offseason and the Eagles selecting Michigan tackle Myles Hinton in the sixth round. Kinnard could get lost in the shuffle with how deep the Eagles' offensive line is.
Brett Toth, C
Here's another offensive lineman that might be on the outs depending on how training camp goes. Toth has been with the Eagles since 2023, but spent most of the 2024 season on the practice squad.
There will be stiff competition in training camp for the backup center role behind Jurgens. Toth will be going up against Philadelphia's fifth-round pick, Drew Kendall, for the second-string job.
Selecting a rookie in the NFL Draft is usually a good indication of being able to make the final roster. Toth will have an uphill battle against Kendall to hold his backup job.
