Eagles send clear message to free-agent targets with Lane Johnson extension

They don't often build statues to offensive lineman or give nicknames to star right tackles. Lane Johnson might need to be the exception to both rules. Unfortunately, however, the Philadelphia Eagles have already given 'The Bodyguard' to another.

Eagles Super Bowl champ Lane Johnson on living, playing with anxiety

Jason Peters recently announced his retirement, and even if he hadn't, we wouldn't dare offer his moniker to another, and speaking of that statue thing, Jason Kelce might be someone else deserving. Who knows? Maybe the organization can build one bearing the likeness of all three.

But, how about this for the answer to the nickname puzzle? Maybe we can come up something utilizing 65's name and references to a wall and cashflow.

Is anyone down for 'Fort Lane'? Have you heard? The best offensive lineman still playing the game just cashed in with an extension.

Let Lane Johnson's extension with the Eagles serve as a billboard for future free agents.

Secrets are often well kept in the Eagles' organization, but news always travels quickly. Philly has reworked the financials for its five-time All-Pro Lane Johnson. Per Adam Schefter, $8 million dollars will be added over the next two years. It also carries an additional $30 million in guarantees.

So, let's do some inventory. This is, in essence a one-year extension for 'Fort Lane'. He'll earn $48 million over the next two seasons. That comes with a guarantee of $40 million.

As was the case with the Saquon Barkley extension and the payday given to Zack Baun, the Eagles organization placed a proverbial billboard in front of the NovaCare Complex.

Philly takes care of its players, especially if they perform. They're the class organization of all class organizations. This doesn't just boost the current players' morale. It makes the Eagles the desired destination of key free agents looking for their next home when their time to get paid comes around.
