The Pro Football Hall of Fame will be welcoming in the Class of 2025 on Saturday afternoon, and among the members of this class is legendary cornerback Eric Allen. The longtime Philadelphia Eagles star will be entering the Hall as a member of the team he spent half of his career with, and it’s safe to say the team is excited for his impending induction.
Allen also spent time with the New Orleans Saints and Oakland Raiders during his NFL career, but there’s no doubt that he is best known for his dominant seven-year stretch with the Eagles. Ahead of his induction, Philadelphia sent a strong message to Allen as he prepares for the crowning achievement of his career.
Eagles Congratulate Eric Allen on Hall of Fame Induction
The Eagles selected Allen in the second round of the 1988 NFL Draft, and he immediately earned a starting role in their secondary. Allen started all 16 games as a rookie, recording 65 tackles and five interceptions along the way. It was an extremely impressive transition to the pros, but it turned out to be just the tip of the iceberg.
Allen would put together the best season of his career in 1989, racking up 48 tackles and eight interceptions. That would earn him his first Pro Bowl selection and a spot on the All-Pro First Team, which would end up being the only selection to this squad he received. A star was born, and it seemed like there was no slowing Allen down.
The 1990 season was a bit of a struggle for Allen, but he responded by rattling off five straight Pro Bowl campaigns from 1991 to 1995, with the final season in that stretch seeing him play for the Saints. Allen recorded four pick-sixes in 1993, while also recording three in 2000 with the Raiders, which was his second-to-last year in the league.
When all was said and done, Allen cemented himself as one of the greatest ball-hawks in NFL history, with his 54 career interceptions being tied for No. 21 on the all-time list. Now, a spot at the Hall of Fame is waiting for him, and on Friday night, he received his gold jacket. Ahead of his induction, the Eagles sent Allen a quick message on social media.
“Gold looks good on you, Eric Allen,” Philadelphia’s post on X read.
Eagles Looking to Repeat as Super Bowl Champions in 2025

If there’s one thing that Allen did not accomplish in his career, it was winning a Super Bowl. Allen never advanced to the Big Game, and his final game in the league ended up being the Tuck Rule Game, where the Raiders lost in overtime to the New England Patriots. However, he did get to witness his former team destroy the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX just a few months ago.
Now, Philadelphia will be looking to run the table again and find its way back to the Super Bowl. They certainly have the talent at their disposal to do so, and they rolled through the postseason last year, so who’s to say it can’t happen? The team will celebrate Allen on Saturday, but they will quickly turn their attention back to the 2025 season afterwards, as they are aiming to successfully defend their title.
