The Eagles announced the following roster moves ahead of Sunday's afternoon matinee against the Carolina Panthers at Lincoln Financial Field.
Signed TE E.J. Jenkins to the active roster
Jenkins impressed with his size (6-6, 245 pounds) and athleticism in Training Camp and the preseason to earn a spot on the Eagles' practice squad. He was elevated by the Eagles for the first two games of the 2024 season as well as the November 3 win against Jacksonville.
Originally signed by the Jets as a rookie free agent out of Georgia Tech following the 2023 NFL Draft, Jenkins split time in his rookie season between the practice squads of the Eagles and the Las Vegas Raiders.
Jenkins finished his college career at Georgia Tech, but started at St. Francis of Pennsylvania (2017-20) and South Carolina (2021). In 46 career college games, Jenkins posted 1,264 yards and 18 touchdowns on 69 receptions (18.3 yards per reception).
Jenkins will serve as the No. 3 tight end on the active roster behind Grant Calcaterra and C.J. Uzomah, who was signed to the active roster on Wednesday.
Placed TE Dallas Goedert on Injured Reserve
To make room for Jenkins, the Eagles placed the team's top tight end on Injured Reserve. Goedert suffered a knee injury in last Sunday's win over the Ravens. Goedert will have to miss at least the next four games, meaning that the earliest he could return for the regular-season finale against the Giants in Week 18.
In nine games, Goedert has 38 catches for 441 yards (11.6 yards per catch) and two touchdowns this season. A seven-year veteran, Goedert had a career game in the Week 3 win over the Saints when he caught 10 passes for 170 yards, marking the most receiving yards by an Eagles tight end since Pete Retzlaff in 1965.
Since becoming the full-time starter at tight end in 2021, Goedert is fifth among all NFL tight ends in receiving yards (2,565) and fourth in yards per catch (12.3).
Elevated FB Khari Blasingame and S Andre Sam from the practice squad for Sunday's game
Blasingame was signed to the practice squad on Tuesday. The sixth-year fullback was in his third season with the Chicago Bears when he was released on October 25. Blasingame appeared in two games this season after playing in 32 between 2022-23.
Blasingame takes the place of linebacker Ben VanSumeren, who was placed on Injured Reserve with a knee injury. In addition to being a standout special teams player, VanSumeren carved out a role as a fullback.
Sam is in line to make his NFL debut on Sunday. A rookie free agent signing of the Eagles following the 2024 NFL Draft, Sam has spent the entire season on the practice squad. This is his first practice squad elevation.
Sam was LSU's Defensive Player of the Year in 2023 after leading the Tigers with three interceptions and posting a career-high 85 tackles. He spent seven seasons in the collegiate ranks: McNeese State (2017-21), Marshall (2022), and LSU. Reed Blankenship (concussion) and Sydney Brown (knee) are out due to injury.
