Eagles TE Dallas Goedert Credits Travis Kelce for Key Lesson

Dallas Goedert is heading to Tight End University (TEU) the weekend of June 21, where he’ll be reunited with several friends and mentors from around the league, including Kansas City Chiefs superstar Travis Kelce.

TEU was launched in 2021 by All‑Pro tight ends Kelce, George Kittle and former Pro Bowler Greg Olsen, with the goal of cultivating a collaborative learning environment for tight ends at all levels. Hosted at Vanderbilt University, the annual three‑day summit features a blend of film study, route and blocking drills and info on recovery sessions. It’s part clinic, part retreat—enabling rookies, veterans and practice‑squad hopefuls to work side‑by‑side while sharing techniques and insights about the TE position.

In an interview with RG.org’s DJ Siddiqi, the Philadelphia Eagles tight end revealed that Kelce in particular helped him take his game up a few notches.

“I would wait for the defense to do something, then decide what to do after that,” Goedert said. “Travis always talked about being able to put the defense in a reactionary position. He taught me how to have a purpose for what I’m doing.”

“He just talked so much about leverage, getting to the edge of a defender, winning at the top of your routes, and how valuable that is,” Goedert said about Kelce. “Knowing the success he’s had, I wanted to pick his brain on that a lot. That was the biggest takeaway I got from him.”

The Eagles vet also says he looks forward to TEU every year for a variety of reasons.

“I was able to learn a lot going my first couple years, and now I’m able to pass on some of the things I got to the younger tight ends,” Goedert added. “We’ll be there for three days, probably spend four hours in the classroom, four hours out on the field, working on the top of routes, blocking, and things that are important as tight ends.”

Drafted in the second round by Philadelphia in 2018, Goedert is both a good blocker and a reliable pass catcher, amassing 349 catches, 4,085 yards and 24 touchdowns over his seven seasons in Philly. His postseason resume 562 yards and four TDs.

Goedert Took Less Money to Return to Philadelphia Eagles in 2025

After the Eagles won Super Bowl 59, Goedert entered the final year of his 2021 four‑year, $57 million extension.

Though originally set to earn north of $14 million, the Eagles and Goedert agreed in May on a restructured one-year deal—reducing his base to $10 million with up to $1 million in incentives, approximately a $4 million pay‑cut.

The restructure came after Philadelphia explored the idea of trading him, but ultimately, the stability of returning to play for a Super Bowl contender won out. Instead of joining a new franchise for more money, he valued continuity and the chance to chase back‑to‑back titles more.

“I got to stay healthy this year and go play really good football, and who knows what’s in store for me after that,” Goedert told RG.org. It wouldn’t have felt right leaving Philadelphia and watching them try to defend the title and not be part of it.”
