The Philadelphia Eagles have become the NFL standard for roster building, particularly when it comes to prioritizing the trenches as the team’s foundation.
So it was hardly a shock to see GM Howie Roseman recoup struggling offensive lineman Kenyon Green in an offseason trade that sent starting safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans.
Green is a former No. 15 overall draft pick who just turned 24 in March. In Philly, you can never have enough young, talented linemen on both sides of the ball, and star O-line coach Jeff Stoutland is among the best in the business at turning castaways into serviceable starters (see Mekhi Becton in 2024).
With that said, Green is far from a lock to make the Eagles’ initial 53-man roster this summer. Insider Anthony DiBona actually predicts the team will look to flip him during training camp to help with another position — like tight end.
DiBona projects the Eagles to ship Green to the Los Angeles Rams for 24-year-old tight end Davis Allen and a sixth-round draft pick.
“Los Angeles is lacking depth along the offensive line and Philadelphia is in quite the opposite situation,” DiBona wrote for The Philly Special Show. “Allen has two years remaining on his rookie contract and would provide some upside.”
This move would make some sense for Philly’s tight end room, as despite a depth chart that currently includes longtime starter Dallas Goedert, Grant Calcaterra, Kylen Granson and Harrison Bryant, the team has no tight ends signed beyond this upcoming 2025 season. Davis has good size at 6-foot-6 and has flashed some pass-catching upside in limited reps over his two pro seasons in Los Angeles. The Rams could justify moving on after making rookie Terrance Ferguson a priority during the 2025 NFL Draft.
As for Green, the writing could be on the wall. He was reportedly working at left guard during OTAs — not on the right side, which has lean competition behind presumptive starter Tyler Steen entering training camp. The Eagles also added a bunch of rookies to their O-line room, including interior lineman Drew Kendall and tackles Cameron Williams and Myles Hinton.
Most assume that Green is a shoo-in for the active roster as the main cog in the CJGJ trade, but he could actually need a monster training camp to avoid switching teams for the second time in this league year.
