It may be June, but Christmas came early for any NFL teams looking for a cornerback which might end up being the Philadelphia Eagles.
News broke Monday morning that the team released Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander. This offseason, there was a mutual understanding that the Packers would seek a trade partner for Alexander, but they never found one.

This is where Eagles general manager Howie Roseman does most of his damage in finding top free agents whom he can acquire for a low cost. Everyone seems to be aligned, though, that Roseman should give Alexander's agent a call about him.
Media is united in Eagles being a potential landing spot for Alexander
Several media outlets have written articles about Alexander's best fit. Starting with PFF, Trevor Sikkema likes the Eagles as a spot to replace Darius Slay, who was released during the offseason.
"We have to throw this one in here because, well, it’s the Eagles. Part of their run to the Super Bowl last year was capitalizing on players like this becoming available and forming the best team in the league. Alexander was also born in Philadelphia, though he grew up mostly in North Carolina.
The Eagles have Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean in their secondary, two players who were excellent as rookie starters in 2024. But they did lose Darius Slay, as well as Isaiah Rodgers, from their Super Bowl secondary. Perhaps Alexander would take a big discount to be the veteran in the room for a team looking for another title."
CBS Sports' Jared Dubin also included the Eagles as a good place for Alexander to play. Besides being a replacement for Slay, Alexander would fit the starting role at outside cornerback better than Kelee Ringo or Adoree' Jackson.
"Philly is always aggressive in going after high-level talent, and Alexander fits the bill. He does even more so because the Eagles allowed both Darius Slay and Isaiah Rodgers to leave for greener pastures in free agency this offseason, leaving them with Kelee Ringo or Adoree' Jackson as their other starting corner across from 2024 first-rounder Quinyon Mitchell. Adding Alexander to the mix would allow them to better replicate what they had last year with Mitchell, Slay and slot corner Cooper DeJean."
The Packers selected Alexander in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, as he has been one of their main starters over the last seven years. He has racked up 287 tackles, 70 pass deflections, 12 interceptions, and 12 tackles for loss in 78 games. Alexander has been named to the Pro Bowl and All-Pro team twice.
Over the last four years, Alexander has struggled to stay healthy, missing 34 games. He has dealt with durability issues from groin injuries to MCL injuries to concussions.
It's one of the main reasons it makes perfect sense for the Eagles to sign him. Philadelphia has been known for taking risks on big name free agents and the move paying off.
The key factor for an Alexander-Eagles marriage to work is that Alexander is willing to invest more in incentives versus the base pay. Eagles like guys who will bet on themselves and go for the incentives.
Alexander would easily come into Philadelphia and start over Ringo and Jackson. If he wants the best shot at winning a Super Bowl, the Eagles would be the perfect spot for him.
