Former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields suffered a dislocated non-big toe, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The injury saw Fields get carted off from practice, but the severity could have been much worse, and he should be ready before Week 1 to play.
The injury saw Fields get stepped on during a play in the team’s 11-on-11 period, which had coach Aaron Glenn promptly ended following Fields’ injury.
Glenn said that if the injury causes Fields to miss time, the Jets have an ‘outstanding backup’ in veteran Tyrod Taylor, who they have the utmost confidence in taking the field if necessary.
Fields is in his first season with the Jets, after previously playing for the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers.
The former Ohio State star was drafted with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Bears.
After spending three years in Chicago, Fields was traded to the Steelers ahead of the 2024 season. Last year, he appeared in 10 games for the Steelers, completing a career-high 65.8 percent of his passes.
Fields threw for 1,106 yards and 5 touchdowns, with 1 interception during his one season in Pittsburgh. He also rushed for 289 yards and 5 scores.
