Ex-Raiders QB Derek Carr Dealt Concerning News

It's been a rocky career for Derek Carr. The former Las Vegas Raiders quarterback had a nine-year stint as a starter but toward the end of his tenure, there were constant questions about his future with the team.

After just two seasons with the New Orleans Saints, his future is murky once again. The team just hired a new head coach in former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.

Notably, Moore and Carr played against each other in college when the former was at Boise State and the former was at Fresno State. Moore was asked about Carr at his introductory press conference and he had some very interesting comments.

"I view it as Derek Carr is a tremendous starting quarterback in this league," Moore said. "We're fortunate to have him, and we're excited to go through this process as we build this roster together."

On the surface, those seem very complimentary of Carr and would suggest he will be back with the Saints next season. However, many have noted that Moore was non-commital on the idea of Carr being the starting quarterback for New Orleans in 2025.

Moore is clearly trying to keep his options open at quarterback. There's no guarantee he'll be back with the Saints. Carr was hoping to find stability when he went to New Orleans but that hasn't been the case at all.

If he's brought back, he'll have his third different playcaller in three seasons. Moore may not want to hitch his wagon to a quarterback who has a history of getting playcallers fired regardless of whether it's his fault or not.
