The Boston Red Sox grabbed headlines this past offseason when they acquired Garrett Crochet from the Chicago White Sox during the Winter Meetings.
That being said, to acquire Crochet, the Red Sox parted ways with an impressive list of minor league talent that included catcher Kyle Teel, infielder Chase Meidroth, outfielder Braden Montgomery, and right-hander Wikelman González.
On Friday, the White Sox announced the promotion of González, who becomes the third player from the Crochet deal to make his Major League debut for the team this season.
The 23-year-old native of Venezuela has pitched for two levels in Chicago’s minor league system this season, and most recently made a move to the bullpen following a promotion to Triple-A Charlotte. He was 5-0 with 18 strikeouts and a 2.75 ERA in 12 games before earning a big league promotion.
González joins Meidroth and Teel, who were promoted to the White Sox roster earlier this season. Meidroth is currently batting .274 with 52 hits in 52 games, while Teel is hitting a modest .240 in 10 games since being promoted on June 6.

González first joined the Red Sox organization in 2018, signing as an international free agent and making it all the way to Portland last season before being traded in December.
For those who are curious, the Red Sox and White Sox play a three-game series Aug. 12-14 in Chicago, and it looks promising that Red Sox fans will have an opportunity to watch four of the five players included in December’s blockbuster trade during the series.
