Fans Angry With Travis Kelce Over Bold Admission at Chiefs-Chargers Game

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Los Angeles 19-17 in yet another nail-biter in Week 14. After a 31-yard field goal sealed the Chiefs' win as the clock expired, Kansas City clinched their ninth-straight AFC West title.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce (87) runs with the ball during the Week 14 NFL game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, December 8, 2024.

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who caught five passes for 45 yards against the Chargers, made NFL history during the "Sunday Night Football" showdown. Kelce became the fastest tight end to reach 12,000 receiving yards (172 games), an NFL record perviously held by Chiefs legend Tony Gonzalez (210 games).

While the All-Pro's 9-yard catch helped set up kicker Matthew Wright's game-winning field goal, that's not the head-tuning moment going viral from the primetime matchup.

After a mic'd up video of Kelce and Chargers safety Derwin James' exchange hit X on Dec. 10, fans were angry.

Following. a non-consequential whip route, James complained to the officials, "He pushed! C'mon ref!"

"Hell yeah I did," Kelce admitted. "You know my routes."

One fan posted, "The entire team is just cheating and not even hiding it and no one does anything.." Another person wrote, "Dude just admitted to getting away with it. [Expletive] this guy." One man added, "They never call [expletive' on the chiefs," a popular narrative from non-Chiefs fans.

One person posted, "They just know they won't get called for anything. Kelce can get his own stuff normally but Jawan Taylor all penalty no skill." Another account wrote, "It’s the Chiefs, they’ll never throw a flag. Is what it is."

While some fans aren't happy with Kelce's bold admission, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes gushed over his veteran teammate after defeating the Chargers.

"He means the world to me, man," Mahomes said. "I mean without getting emotional, he’s a guy that has really kind of made me who I am in my career. He’s a true leader on the football field. Someone I can go to at any moment and he’s going to make a big play happen.

"Everybody sees the personality on the TV and stuff like that but you don’t see that every day work ethic that he has... Even for me, to come into the league and have a superstar player and see him work like that, it kind of showed me I’m going to have to put that work ethic in if I’m going to get to that level."

Next up, the Chiefs travel to take on the Cleveland Browns in Week 15.
