Actor Keith Carradine is well known for many notable roles throughout his long-running career. Fans enjoyed his portrayal of John Dorie Sr. in seasons 6 and 7 of AMC's Fear the Walking Dead. Now, Carradine has a role in the sci-fi horror Afraid.
The movie is directed by Chris Weitz, known for About a Boy, and produced by Columbia Pictures with Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions, Andrew Miano, and Weitz. The cast includes Carradine, John Cho, Katherine Waterston, Havana Rose, Lukita Maxwell, David Dastmalchian, and Ashely Romans.
The story follows a family who has been chosen to test out a new digital device known as AIA. The device is said to revolutionize home technology. Their house is equipped with cameras and the unit, which begins to learn the patterns and behaviors of the family members. Inititally the family sees the merits of the unit as it make all of their lives easier. But when it begins to control their lives and finally become self aware, the story takes a drastic turn.
The film was released in theaters in Aug. 2025 to negative critical reviews. It ranks 22% on Rotten Tomatoes but faired better with viewers, receiving 51% on the Popcornmeter. The movie is now streaming on Netflix.
Carradine comes from a long list of family actors including his late father, John Carradine. His brother Robert, half-brother David, and daughter Martha Plimpton are also well known in the world of movies and TV.
He is well known for his role as FBI agent Frank Lundy in Dexter, US President Conrad Dalton in Madam Secretary, and Wild Bill Hickok in Deadwood. His more recent roles include Judge Clay Bonner in Law & Order: Organized Crime, the voice of Bob Brine in the Rugrats series, and he starred in an episode of Accused, an episodic anthology crime drama.
