Fear The Walking Dead season 8 is not coming to AMC in December 2022

Don’t expect the TWD Universe to return with Fear The Walking Dead season 8 this year.

The end of The Walking Dead makes its very first spinoff series, Fear The Walking Dead, the veteran of the TWD Universe now. Originally a prequel to the AMC juggernaut that gave audiences an insight into how the zombie apocalypse that Rick Grimes woke up to on the main show began, it evolved into a companion series over time.

Fear The Walking Dead season 8 is not coming to AMC in December 2022

The decision to do that resulted in some criticism, not because it was essentially just TWD but in a different setting, but because it disrespectfully destroyed many of the dynamics that made the show so different, killed off multiple beloved Fear characters and brought in TWD‘s Morgan (Lennie James) as its new main character.

Thankfully, the negative response eventually resulted in the creative team doing the right thing, with Kim Dickens returning to reprise her role as leading lady Madison Clark in the season 7 finale. And now that Madison’s back, when can fans expect the show to return?

If you’re hoping to see the new season of the show this month, then you might be disappointed to learn that it won’t be airing on AMC just yet.

Fear The Walking Dead season 8 will debut on AMC in 2023. The cable network made the announcement earlier this year, confirming that it will be back after the parent series concluded. And it won’t be the only spinoff either, as the TWD Universe will expand to feature three new offshoots focused on main characters from The Walking Dead.

As far as which ones we can expect first goes, Dead City is confirmed to debut in April. None of the others have been given a specific window, but the AMC promo that aired after The Walking Dead series finale suggested that both Dead City and Fear The Walking Dead season 8 would premiere first.

This could very well confirm the fan theory that Fear will return in early 2023, as the show often splits its seasons into two parts. With that in mind, AMC could air the first seven episodes prior to Dead City‘s arrival in April (or immediately after it completes its first season to capitalize on that TWD Universe momentum).

That’s just a prediction, and it’s best to wait for AMC to officially confirm when it will premiere. However, that trailer did make it seem like Fear The Walking Dead season 8 and The Walking Dead: Dead City would be the first two of the various TWD spinoffs to air next year. And if that’s the case, don’t rule out an early release window.
