Final Lions injury report for Week 3 vs. Cardinals brings a lot of good news

Here are the Detroit Lions injury designations for Week 3 against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Detroit Lions will hit the road for the first time this season to take on the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3, as they look to bounce back from a tough loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

On the injury front for Detroit there has been some concerns this week. Most prominent among them were wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (quad) and linebacker Alex Anzalone (concussion), who suffered injuries during last week's game. The nature of Anzalone's injury, to say nothing of the sheer force of the hit to the head he took, automatically cast his status for this week into doubt.

Here is the final Week 3 injury report, with game statuses, for the Lions.

  • CB Ennis Rakestraw (hamstring)-Out
  • S Ifeatu Melifonwu (ankle)-Out
  • LB Alex Anzalone (concussion)-Questionable
  • CB Terrion Arnold (illness)-Questionable
  • OG Graham Glasgow (knee)-Questionable
  • WR Isaiah Williams (abdomen)-Questionable
  • WR Amon-Ra St. Brown (quad)-No designation
  • DE Marcus Davenport (groin-No designation
  • S Kerby Joseph (back)-No designation

Rakestraw was a late scratch last week after he suffered a hamstring injury during pre-game warmups. After not practicing all week, he will miss another game.

Melifonwu will miss his third straight game to start the season due to an ankle injury he suffered in training camp. He has not practiced at all in each of the last two weeks, but on Friday Dan Campbell said an IR placement is not imminent and the fourth-year safety is "progressing". If Melifonwu is unable to play in Week against the Seattle Seahawks, then he probably should've been placed on IR after roster cuts.

Anzalone was a limited participant in practice in each of the last two days. So it seems he has not totally cleared concussion protocol, but that he was able to participate in practice at all is a positive sign.

Arnold battled an illness this week, but he was limited in Friday's practice and looks to be trending toward playing on Sunday. The dislocated finger he suffered against the Buccaneers seems to be behind him too.

Williams missed last week's game with an abdomen injury, but three days of limited practice this week is a positive sign he might be available on Sunday.

St. Brown was a full participant all week, and he carries no injury designation. Davenport was also a full participant all week, so he looks set to return after missing last week. Joseph is listed with a different injury than he was listed with last week, but he carries no injury designation for Sunday.

Here's the final Week 3 injury report for the Cardinals.

  • OT Kelvin Beachum (hamstring)-Questionable
  • WR Greg Dortch (hamstring)-Questionable
  • DL Dante Stills (shoulder)-Questionable
  • OG Will Hernandez (ankle)-No designation
  • LB Xavier Thomas (personal)-No designation
  • WR Xavier Weaver (oblique-No designation

Dortch, with a favorable matchup as Arizona's slot receiver, is a notable late addition after being injured during Friday's practice.
Beachum was already replacing Jonah Williams at right tackle. If he can't go on Sunday (no practice on Friday) the Cardinals will be down to Jackson Barton, who is line to be elevated from the practice squad again this week, at right tackle.
