When will ‘Sheriff Country’ premiere?

While action series Fire Country continues to be on fire when it comes to its popularity, CBS has picked up a spinoff show: Sheriff Country. Its addition to the schedule was announced in mid-2024 and has had many updates since then.

While CBS has not announced an exact Sheriff Country release date, it has confirmed the show will debut as part of the 2025-2026 TV season. Fans of Fire Country will only have to wait a little longer to see more of the world they love — with a new law enforcement twist.

“As we’ve said over and over, we do long-term development at CBS now,” Reisenbach said. “Sheriff Country is hot. It’s so hot that we’ve decided to make our first series pickup for 25-26 and Sheriff Country will join the schedule next year as our series pick-up. This will give us plenty of time to cast it, to figure out how we want to produce it, give us scheduling time, marketing time. It’s a huge opportunity for us and it really speaks to the kind of development we want to be doing right now.”

The plot of ‘Sheriff Country’: what to expect

The idea for Sheriff Country came through a backdoor pilot during Fire Country Season 2, an episode titled “Alert the Sheriff”. The episode starred Morena Baccarin as Sheriff Mickey Fox, who is also the stepsister of Fire Country’s Cal Fire division chief Sharon Leone (Diane Farr).

According to the series’ logline, “Mickey Fox investigates criminal activity and patrols the streets of small-town Edgewater while contending with her ex-con father and a mysterious incident involving her wayward daughter.”

The cast of ‘Sheriff Country’ so far

The cast of Sheriff Country is shaping up to be a must-watch ensemble. Morena Baccarin leads as Sheriff Mickey Fox, but CBS has also added W. Earl Brown, Christopher Gorham and Michele Weaver to the roster.

Brown will star as Wes Fox, the estranged father of Mickey, who was introduced in a Season 3 episode of Fire Country. Gorham is joining the cast to play Mickey’s ex-husband, Travis. He is a lawyer and father to Mickey’s daughter Skye. Although they’re exes, Sheriff Country may explore their remaining romantic feelings for one another.

Meanwhile, Weaver will star as Cassidy, a deputy working with Mickey at the Edgewater County Sheriff’s Office. Throughout the series, Cassidy will figure out what sort of first responder she hopes to be.
