Here's a look at the first practice report for the Lions heading into Week 17 against the 49ers.
Normally Wednesday would be the first practice of the week for the Detroit Lions. But the Christmas holiday being Wednesday and playing next Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers combined to conveniently to push the first practice of the week to Thursday this week.
There's been a lot of positive news on the injury front for the Lions lately, as some players get close to being able to come off injured reserve. Time will tell how that progresses, but seemingly getting healthier in the second to last regular season week is a great development for the playoff push.
First Lions injury report for Week 17 features another looming return
Here's a look at Thursday's practice report for the Lions (FP=Full participant, LP=Limited participant, NP=Non-participant).
- CB Terrion Arnold (illness): NP
- RB David Montgomery (knee): NP
- OG Graham Glasgow (knee): FP
- WR Kalif Raymond (foot): FP
- LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin (neck): FP
A week after Reeves-Maybin made a surprising return to practice to start his 21-day window to come off IR, Raymond made his return to practice on Thursday. Before practice, head coach Dan Campbell revealed Raymond's return to the practice field was happening when asked about players who could be back in action this week.
"He’ll start practicing (Thursday),” Campbell said. “We’ll see where he is at. I don’t feel as confident with him (returning to the active roster this week), as I do with Germ , but it’s good to have him back out practicing, it’ll be good to have him back out there running around.”
Reeves-Maybin was a full participant on Thursday, and he has 13 days left in his 21-day activation window. There's a chance he's activated and will play next Monday night.
Glasgow missed last week's game against the Bears. On Monday Campbell said he expected to have his starting left guard back in the lineup against San Francisco, and a full practice on Thursday confirms that.
As expected, Montgomery did not practice on Thursday. He has yet to be, and at his point won't be, placed on IR with the MCL injury to his right knee as he rehabs rather than undergo season-ending surgery. He could return in the playoffs.
Arnold popped up on Thursday's practice report with an illness, which can be common this time of year. His status for next Monday night is not yet a big concern, but it's something to watch in the coming days.
