New images and a teaser trailer have been revealed for the second season of The Walking Dead: Dead City. They showcase a first look at Sons of Anarchy star Kim Coates making his debut in the Walking Dead franchise.
In The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2, Coates will be featured as a major villain. In a first look photo of his character, Coates can be seen suited up with multiple rings on his fingers while holding a cane. A new teaser trailer also reveals the first footage of Coates in character, as he is briefly shown emerging from a building with an army behind him. The character appears to be reacting to Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) bringing power back to Manhattan, which may lead to an unintended conflict. The first photo of Coates in the show along with the teaser can both be seen below.
This won't be the first time a major Sons of Anarchy star played a key villain in the Walking Dead franchise. Opie Winston actor Ryan Hurst memorably played Beta in The Walking Dead, serving as one of the most iconic villains of the show's 11-season run. Jose Pablo Cantillo, who played Sons of Anarchy's Hector Salazar, also played the role of The Governor's (David Morrissey) right-hand man, Martinez, in Seasons 3 and 4 of The Walking Dead. Jacob Hale Jr. actor Jeff Kober also played Joe in The Walking Dead Season 4, a short-lived villain who gets his throat bitten out by Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln).
The Walking Dead: Dead City Will Return in 2025
The new teaser was unveiled at New York Comic Con where it was also announced when Season 2 of The Walking Dead: Dead City will premiere on AMC and AMC+. Unfortunately, fans have a bit longer to wait, as the new season won't arrive until 2025. For now, fans can watch new episodes of the second season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, which has been subtitled The Book of Carol, as it sees Melissa McBride returning alongside Norman Reedus. That show has already been renewed for a third season as well.
The Walking Dead: Dead City was created by Eli Jorné, who serves as showrunner. The series picks up after the events of The Walking Dead with Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan) becoming unlikely allies as they venture into an apocalyptic Manhattan in search of Maggie's son, Hershel (Logan Kim). The series also stars Gaius Charles, Željko Ivanek, Mahina Napoleon, Lisa Emery, and Jasmin Walker. Jorné executiv eproduces with Robert Kirkman, David Alpert, Gale Anne Hurt, Brian Bockrath, Cohan, and Morgan.
