When it comes to the football community, real recognizes real. In the case of the news regarding Teddy Bridgewater’s suspension by his alma mater Miami Northwestern heard round the world, there’s been plenty of opinions provided on social media by some big name folks in the football world.
There’s been no shortage of comments ranging from the avid football fan to ESPN personalities when touching on Bridgewater’s untimely suspension, just two weeks before high school practices start in the Sunshine State.
Here are some of the reactions that have taken place today from the NFL world of current/former players and current/former analysts.
From former ESPN analyst/NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III: Teddy Bridgewater just got suspended as the Head Coach of Miami Northwestern High School because he covered Uber rides, meals and recovery services for his players out of his own pockets last season. He got suspended for taking care of his players when they were in need, teaching them how to take care of their bodies and giving them the necessities to help them chase their dreams for a brighter future. Not cheating. Not stealing. Just caring. He gave them the tools to chase a better future and is getting punished for it. Suspending Teddy Bridgewater isn’t justice. It’s punishing love, leadership, and sacrifice.
From ESPN’s Louis Riddick: This Teddy Bridgewater suspension for doing RIGHT by his football players and propping up the program with his own money is simply embarrassing. WTF are we even doing here? When I read everything he was providing for these young men, I’m thinking “Is he going to get some kind of reward? Recognition ?” Come on man…this is just dumb.
From former NFL Pro Bowl wide receiver Chad Ochocinco Johnson: Basic necessities & resources that the kids needed & this is what you do
From former NFL Pro Bowl linebacker Shawne Merriman: Complete BS. If it wasn’t for people (coaches) like Teddy I wouldn’t have made it. It was times we didn’t have food growing up so my club coaches made sure I was fed. Many times we couldn’t afford gas so they gave me a ride, I couldn’t afford cleats so they made sure I had cleats. He should be thanked not punished.
From current New Orleans Saints’ defensive end Cam Jordan: I’ve heard… Private schools shell out money to players, other schools recruit in the NIL era, and he’s being suspended for? Helping his players? Feeding his players? Make that make sense
