Washington Capitals forward Andrew Mangiapane, who once scored 35 goals with the Calgary Flames, appears ready to move on from the Capitals in free agency.
After just a single year with the Washington Capitals, it looks like forward Andrew Mangiapane is ready to move on and test the free agent market.
Mangiapane, who recently switched agents and is now represented by Allain Roy at RSG Hockey, will be hitting the free agent market per David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period.
As the Capitals navigate their off-season plan, it looks like Andrew Mangiapane will be hitting July 1 as a UFA. Also, of note, Mangiapane has switched agents and is now represented by Allain Roy at RSG Hockey.
He was acquired by the Capitals from the Calgary Flames last summer for a 2025 2nd round draft selection, and he would have 28 points (14G, 14A) in 81 games in what could be his 1st and only year in Washington.
Capitals general manager Chris Patrick spoke during his end-of-year media session about the need to improve the club's 3rd line, where Mangiapane primarily played bottom-6 minutes.
It would be great to add another skilled player to our lineup, for sure. It would be great to also have a third line that is a really dependable third line. The Dowd line is effectively a 3rd line; it would be great to have two third lines, like Nic's line.
Those are two areas we'd like to improve on. Can you do both at the same time? I don't know. We're going to have to see what's available and what's out there. But those are certainly, at least, what my focus (is). And I think Mac is hopefully on the same page on that one.
The Capitals are also likely to move on from Taylor Raddysh and Lars Eller, leaving additional holes in the roster for Patrick to fill.
